Lightstep recommends running the OpenTelemetry Collector for ingesting Prometheus-format and OpenTelemetry metrics and can optionally be used (with Lightstep microsatellites) to ingest traces as well. The Collector also gives teams flexibility in defining how they want to recieve and process telemetry before it is sent to Lightstep.

In this learning path, you’ll start by installing the OpenTelemetry Operator for Kubernetes in your Kubernetes cluster. Then you’ll configure the collecter running in Kubernetes to send Prometheus-format metrics from your applications to Lightstep.
